The Hendrick Hudson Community Educational Foundation, Inc. is a community-based, non-profit organization. We exist for the purposes of raising and granting funds in support of educational activities to benefit the citizens residing within the boundaries of the Hendrick Hudson School District.

The Foundation shall encourage parents, students and alumnae of the Hendrick Hudson Central School District, community members, the private sector and others to contribute financial resources to be used for:

~ Supporting the continued development of our strong community commitment to education

~ Enhancing the excellence of the Hendrick Hudson Central School District by providing support to facilitate the development of educational, artistic, literary, scientific, and technological projects and programs

~ Providing funding for educational projects and programs to benefit pre-schoolers to senior citizens residing within the Hendrick Hudson School District

As President of the Hendrick Hudson Community Educational Foundation, I am awed by the talent and energy of such a wonderful team of community members, and honored to head this all-volunteer, non-profit group. Our mission is clear – improve the educational opportunities for all people who reside in the district, regardless of age, school, or any other criteria. Included with “education” are the arts, music, and athletics.

The goal of the Hendrick Hudson Community Educational Foundation (HHCEF) is to raise funds to provide for above-and-beyond educational initiatives for the entire community. Through June 2008, we have granted $113,000, and gave $6,500 in scholarships to High School Seniors.

Fundraisers for 2008 include the annual appeal, in its second year, and, back by popular demand, “Foundation Fest” – a wine and beer tasting social with live and on-line auction. This event will be held on Friday, October 3rd at the historic McKinley School, located on Welcher Boulevard in Peekskill.

Past fundraisers have included eight years of the “Not Necessarily Talented” Talent Show; two years of “Harlem Wizards vs. Hen Hud Staff, Alumni & Friends”, and two Paramount Center music events featuring local talent – “Bach to Rock” and “Share the Beat”. As you can see, in addition to raising funds, we enjoy bringing the community together with fun-loving events that make us smile.

We typically offer two grant cycles per year – one in the Spring and one in the Fall - with awards of up to $1,000-$2,000. Some of the awards that I am most proud of include supporting the Early Intervention Reading Program for Pre-school Children, Senior Citizen’s Computer Classes taught by local high school students, the Blue Mountain Middle School Flag Project, the High School DNA Lab equipment, and all of the Library’s special programs. We also fund annual scholarships for college bound students each year.

We welcome new members, and look forward to community involvement. Senior citizens, singles with no children in the district, those with businesses in the district, parents, and teachers – all are invited to join. We meet once a month, usually the first Tuesday of each month, and communicate via email and phone in between. Please look through the website and consider becoming a member, volunteer, sponsor or donor. I look forward to hearing from you, and thank you for your support.
